Samford University’s Anesthesia is a front loaded program. What that means is that you will spend the first year in the classroom learning the science of anesthesia with out any clinical rotations. The second year is when you will begin your clinical rotations and begin doing anesthesia in a variety of different hospitals and settings.

Classes Start:

  • January

Requirements:

  • Unencumbered licensure as a registered nurse
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • An on-campus interview
  • At least one year of full-time critical care experience as an RN
  • Critical Care Experience includes: Cardiac Care Unit, Cardiovascular Recovery, Medical ICU, Neuro ICU, Neonatal ICU, Surgical ICU, Burn ICU, Trauma ICU and Pediatric ICU
  • Prerequisite  courses: general chemistry, research, both with a grade of B or better
  • Three letters of reference: required recommendations  1) current or previous professor; 2) work supervisor; and 3) professional colleague

International Applicants:

  •  Score at least 550 (paper), 213 (computer) or 80 (internet) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)
  • Exceptions to any of the admission requirements may be considered on an individual basis
