The University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) is developing a new Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) – Nurse Anesthesia track at the Fran and Earl Ziegler College of Nursing in Oklahoma City. Once accredited, it will become Oklahoma’s second nurse anesthesia program alongside the University of Tulsa.

This page is a placeholder summary based on publicly available information from OUHSC’s official program page. We will publish the full guide once the COA grants initial accreditation.

Accreditation Status: Under Initial Review

The OUHSC BSN-to-DNP Nurse Anesthesia track is currently under review for initial accreditation by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COA). A decision is anticipated at the COA’s October 2026 meeting.

Per OUHSC’s published notice, no students may be enrolled in the program until initial accreditation is granted. Prospective applicants should monitor the school’s program page for the official application opening announcement.

What We Know About the Program

OUHSC has designed the track as a 36-month, full-time BSN-to-DNP program totaling 115 credit hours. The CRNA-specific didactic component is 80 credit hours, with the remainder covering DNP-core and clinical immersion coursework.

Clinical rotations are planned across academic medical centers, Level I trauma centers, community hospitals, and rural sites. The program emphasizes longitudinal clinical immersion after a foundation in didactic and high-fidelity simulation work.

Program Director

The CRNA Program Director is Angela Mund, DNP, CRNA, FAANA, FAAN, who also serves as Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs-CRNA. Dr. Mund previously served as the DNAP Program Director at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Anticipated Admission Requirements

Based on OUHSC’s posted criteria, applicants will need a BSN from a U.S. regionally accredited institution, an unencumbered RN license, and a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. At least one year of full-time RN experience in critical care is required prior to applying, plus a resume documenting any shadowing or observation experience.

The most qualified candidates will be invited to an interview. Cumulative GPA is calculated according to the OU Health Campus Student Handbook policies in place at the time of application.

Location and Setting

The College of Nursing is located on the OU Health Sciences Campus at 1100 N Stonewall Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73117. OUHSC’s affiliation with OU Health gives students access to the state’s largest academic medical system.

When Will Applications Open?

OUHSC has not announced an official application window. If the COA grants initial accreditation at its October 2026 meeting, an inaugural cohort could realistically begin in 2027 or 2028 depending on the program’s enrollment timeline.

Until then, the only fully accredited CRNA program in Oklahoma is the University of Tulsa Doctor of Nursing Anesthesia Practice. Applicants seeking immediate enrollment should consider Tulsa or programs in neighboring states.
